The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is currently recruiting 20 500 education assistants and general school assistants for public and special schools in the province through the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson for the WCED, explains this is the fourth phase of the PYEI in the Basic Education sector. In this phase only new applicants who have not participated in previous phases will be considered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSchools have responded very positively to the previous phases of the programme,\u201d Hammond said. The education assistants support teachers with administrative tasks, classroom management, sport coaching and cultural activities, while the general assistants help with maintenance, cleaning, vegetable gardens and general administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added the assistants had also expressed their appreciation for the opportunity with some now interested in pursuing a career in education as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The applications opened on Monday 26 September and will close on Sunday 16 October. Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34 (turning 35 before or on 31 March 2024) are encouraged to apply for education and general assistants posts at a public school within a 5 km radius of their place of residence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Candidates who wish to apply for Assistant positions at special schools need to be between the ages of 18 and 39 (turning 40 before or on 31 March 2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Requirements include:.<\/span> Education assistants between the ages of 18 and 35 with a minimum of NQF 4 (Matric) qualification..<\/span> School assistants up to the age of 35 years with or without an NQF 4 qualification (matric).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The contracts for this phase are from Wednesday 1 February until Saturday 30 September 2023. The stipend is R4 081, 44 per month less 1% UIF contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Potential candidates can apply online on https:\/\/sayouth.datafree.co\/p\/dbe. This is a zero-rated mobisite that can be accessed through a mobile phone.
