On Monday 17 July the Western Cape High Court dismissed the challenge made by the South African Democratic Teachers\u2019 Union (Sadtu)\/Equal Education against the validity of a collaboration-schools model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This makes high-quality no-fee education available to learners from poor communities of the Western Cape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
David Maynier, Western Cape Minister of Education, said when the action was instituted, collaboration schools were just getting off the ground. Since then the model has produced excellent results, with learners having access to incredible learning opportunities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur collaboration school donors have contributed to the value of over R325 million to our schools to date, a contribution to our education sector that might otherwise not have been made,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maynier said one need only look at collaboration schools like Apex High School, Jakes Gerwel Technical High School and Boundary Primary School to see the benefits the model offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have always maintained that the challenge brought by Sadtu\/Equal Education was without basis, and we are pleased with the outcome in the High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
