Since learners from Middelpos Primary School moved to their new school building a few months ago, the temporary classrooms have been vacant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Siyabulela Liwani, a councillor of Middelspos the once occupied temporary classrooms of Middelpos Primary, have been ripped by vandalism. For him it is shocking to see the state of these classrooms, which he feels could have been used at other schools on the West Coast that are in desperate need of extra classrooms. \u201cWe have been trying our best to communicate with the Department of Public Works to remove everything as they were no longer in use. The situation is really bad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liwani is specifically concerned about the safety and health of the children in the community who seem to be moving around and playing on the site of these classes. \u201cThere are a lot of old materials and chemicals still in containers and our children are playing with it. Their lives are in danger.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kerry Mauchline, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, said a contractor had been appointed to disassemble and remove the classrooms, and then determine if any can be re-used elsewhere. \u201cWe also appointed security personnel last week to secure the classrooms meanwhile.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
