{"id":61651,"date":"2019-04-29T06:00:39","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T04:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/weslander\/shoprite-bursaries-now-available-20190424-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T21:55:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T19:55:50","slug":"shoprite-bursaries-now-available-20190424-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/weslander\/shoprite-bursaries-now-available-20190424-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Shoprite bursaries now available"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you are looking to further your studies this year, why not apply for a bursary from Shoprite?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chain store is still accepting bursary applications for the 2019 academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students interested in accounting (first and second year), logistics, IT and Data Sciences as well as retail business management have a chance at being awarded a bursary of up to R70 000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, some 286 students benefited from the Shoprite bursary programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each bursary comes with a work-back agreement, which would see the successful applicant assured of a job at the largest private sector employer in the country once they have graduated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trainee Accountant Mpilo Sicwebu was a Shoprite bursary holder for the full duration of his university career at Wits: \u201cI was unable to secure a bursary in my matric year. So in my first year I was conducting an online search when I found the Shoprite bursary programme,\u201d says Sicwebu (23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, and said he was able to focus fully on his studies as the worry about finances was lifted from his shoulders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now an accounting article clerk at Shoprite\u2019s Home Office, he says no two work days are ever the same. \u201cI expected an every-man-for-himself environment, but was surprised to find something totally different, Sicwebu said. \u201cEveryone here is so accessible and willing to help
