Members of the local National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) came to the aid of fishers last Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from three fishers on board a fishing boat reporting engine failure five nautical miles off-shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nic Stevens, NSRI Mykonos Station Commander, said: \u201cOur NSRI duty crew responded to our NSRI Mykonos base and we headed towards St Helena Bay by road in our NSRI rescue vehicle, towing the sea rescue craft Spirit of East London II.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Stevens on arrival at St Helena Bay the crew launched the sea rescue craft and a search commenced for the casualty craft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While searching for the boat the casualty crew set off a red distress flare to mark their position, they rendezvoused with the fishing boat finding all three crew safe on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA towline was established and we towed them to St Helena Bay harbour without incident and once we had them safely in the harbour no further assistance was required,\u201d Stevens explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The duty crew returned to the NSRI Mykonos rescue base and the operation completed at 20:00.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
