On Friday 2 September, Air Force Base (AFB) Langebaanweg led an outreach programme at Holvlei Primary School initiated by its Environmental Services section. This project was managed and run by Captain Gramville Kuilders, Lieutenant Elias Koopman, Warrant Officer Michael Fred Pedro, Flight Sergeant Shefton Andell Maarman and the groundsmen (Environmental Services Air Force Base Langebaanweg). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The aim was to plant trees to uplift the image of the school and provide adequate shading for learners during hot summer days, and also to create awareness of the importance of trees. These trees were planted to beautify the surrounding areas of the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Principal of Holvlei Primary Christopher Witbooi welcomed everyone, and a presentation was made by Kuilders on the importance of trees and why Arbor Day is celebrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A ceremonial tree was planted by the principal and staff members. Trees were also planted by learners and members of the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the conclusion of the ceremony 20 indigenous trees were planted in the area where it was held. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The learners of Holvlei Primary School concluded the event by reciting a poem and expressed their thanks to AFB Langebaanweg, and in particular the General Officer Commanding Brigadier General Mac Matanda, for its continued support of the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On home ground members of AFB Langebaanweg also planted trees at its various sections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For this it would like to thank the Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries for making it possible to educate members on the importance of trees and the role trees play in their daily lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Casual Day was also celebrated to raise funds for people with disabilities, for which stickers could be purchased specially. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
