Bergrivier Municipality has appointed a service provider which specialises in weed management to assist in control of the invasion of weed in the area and keep its environment clean and tidy over the longer-term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This comes after the municipality announced in September wild flowers would be left to bloom as the flower season was later than usual. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flowers on sidewalks, public open spaces, cemeteries and public sports fields were not sprayed as usual, but the new service provider will target these areas as part of its work. \u201cThis process runs on a cycle of two applications (spraying efforts) over a four-week period. After the initial application that was done in mid-October, it is anticipated that the weeds will already start to whither away. A second application was done at the end of November, whereafter the remaining weeds will be raked out,\u201d said David Carolissen, Manager of Community Facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carolissen indicated certain patches in the various towns may still appear as untidy, however, after the second round of spraying, steps can then be taken to remove the weeds. \u201cIt is vital that we wait for the second application to be applied, before steps can be taken to remove the weeds. It is important in order to ensure the long-term efficacy of our weed-prevention strategy,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality appeals to all residents to be patient while this weed management process unfolds, as there may still be untidy patches at cemeteries, along sidewalks or in open spaces. This will, however, change over time and areas will start to look much neater than before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are confident that residents will see a marked improvement in the general appearance of sidewalks, cemeteries and open spaces by the second week of December. In the meantime, we sincerely appreciate the continued support of all residents in this regard,\u201d concluded Carolissen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality requests members of the public to, \u201cif you have the means, help pull out weeds which you can see along the sidewalks in front of or near to your house\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
