The annual memorial parade hosted by the Air Force Base Langebaanweg took place on Friday 5 May at its memorial wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two members who died in 2022, Sgt Gerhardus Arnold Visser and Cpl John Peter Swanepoel, were honoured at the service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visser served for 20 years and Swanepoel 27 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chaplain Mandla Mtila opened the service with a reading and encouraged the families and all those attending. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He laid emphasis on love and how people need to look out for one another and support one another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mtila reminded everyone that the fallen soldiers had left a great legacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rowin Human, son of Swanepoel, said his father had been his role-model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The thing about his father he will always remember are his great jokes and his people-oriented personality,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is so much I can say about him and all the things he taught us. It is still unreal to me that he is gone today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Human said he regarded the memorial service as a beautiful gesture, and thanked Air Force Base Langebaanweg for the manner in which it honoured his father. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a token of respect, families and dignitaries as well as other stakeholders also laid wreaths in memory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
