Twenty-five young people will soon learn surfing and life skills thanks to the Elands Bay Surf Project along the scenic Garden Route on their first trip to Jeffreys Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt 9Miles we believe that children learn best when they can experience the joy of travel and adventure, and get glimpses of life beyond their current circumstances. That is why our annual JBay trip with students and leaders is so important,\u201d says Nigel Savel, founder of the 9Miles Project. The Project recently celebrated its 10th year of youth and community development. The local branch was launched in 2017 and has seen tremendous growth over the past few years with an average of 45 children attending programmes on any given day. At its height during summer the programme accommodates 65 children per day. \u201cWhile we would love to take everyone, the Garden Route trip will be a reward for the Top 25 students who met various criteria such as faithful attendance, dedication, attitude and behaviour,\u201d explains Savel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tour will take place from 7-17 July and will coincide with the Corona Open JBay, a World Surf League event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 9Miles Project team believes this will give learners the opportunity to interact with the world\u2019s best surfers and the international surfing community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are so looking forward to this adventure with our Ebay kids as it will be our first time doing a road trip with them. As such, we\u2019d love to give them the best possible experience and we will greatly appreciate any assistance in making this trip as special as possible for them \u2013 whether it be a monetary donation, or assistance with snacks and padkos for the long road,\u201d Savel says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
