It was with great excitement that the 2023 Netball World Cup trophy arrived on the Weskus on Friday 7 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the lead-up to the Netball World Cup, which takes place between Friday 28 July and Sunday 6 August, the trophy has been making its way through the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Friday\u2019s stop at the Weskus Mall was the last stop before Anroux Marais, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, handed the trophy over to the City of Cape Town, where the international tournament will be held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marais received the trophy from the Eastern Cape Government at the Bloukrans Bridge on Monday 3 July and has since travelled across the province to display it to communities from Beaufort West, Prince Albert, the Garden Route, Overberg, Cape Winelands and the Weskus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a quick stop at the offices of the Saldanha Bay Municipality the trophy was on displayed at the Weskus Mall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Locals showed up in numbers, kitted out with South African flags and in sports gear, to show their support for the Spar Protea netball ladies who will represent the country at the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s tournament will be the first time the Netball World Cup will be hosted on African soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both Cecilia Molokwane, Netball South Africa president, and local West Coast Netball Union president Madelein Horn expressed the significance and importance of what the World Cup means for the country as well as young players.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
