The Weskus, a region of contrasting landscapes stretching over 400 km from south to north, always conjures up evocative images in the mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This region offers locals and visitors a fantastic variety of experiences and destinations, with that unique Weskus flavour and lots of sunshine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from the wonderful citrus and rooibos farms, magnificent mountains with spectacular rock forms and the scenic beauty of the coast the region is renowned for its spectacular wildflowers in season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every year the Weskus explodes into a kaleidoscope of wildflowers covering every part of the beautiful fields with colours as far as the eye can see. This natural phenomenon draws thousands of visitors from around the world between August and September each year. There are quite a few areas which are flower \u201chotspots\u201d and Postberg in the West Coast National Park is one such area. At Postberg you will see unique flower species with 80 of the flowering plants found nowhere else in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Various wildflower shows are also taking place in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Clanwilliam, Darling and Hopefield flower shows attract many visitors and flower lovers each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At these flower shows more than 200 wildflower and plant species are displayed as found in the Cederberg, Renosterveld, Sandveld, Rietveld, and wetland areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tips to view the beauty of the Weskus Flowers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The best time to view the wildflowers is in spring between August and September. Flowers are at their best in the afternoon sun, so don\u2019t go bloom hunting on a cloudy day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wait until the sun\u2019s high in the sky, between 10:30 am and 15:30 is best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When going out around the region it is always best to head out a bit earlier to avoid the crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the safety of the visitors, fauna, and flora it is best to pre-book your self-game drives, hikes, accommodation, or restaurant reservations. This way the parks are able to plan for the number of visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
