Various NGO\u2019s along with West Coast Disability Forum (WCDF) and other partners celebrated International Disability day on Tuesday 5 December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official International Disability Day took place on Sunday 3 December. The theme for the day was \u201cNothing about us, without us\u201d and also \u201cinclusion matters\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With about 380 people with disabilities in attendance, there was a health awareness walk through the streets of Saldanha as well as a talent show. Natachia Williams from Sisonke said the day was a huge success and everyone enjoyed it. \u201cEverything went according to time and plan. From the ambulance services, law enforcement, the DJ, it was amazing,\u201d said Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chrisna du Plessis, chairperson of WCDF, explained that this kind of event takes place annually, to bring awareness to the public. \u201cWe want to break the stigma of disability and show the community that people with disabilities can live a fulfilled life. This event is a highlight in the life of these members, it makes them feel part of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
