\u2018Your safety is our priority\u2019 \u2013 This was the collaborative message at the West Coast Festive Season Safety Launch held in Moorreesburg Thursday (14 December).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Partnerships between various law-enforcement agencies aim to create safer a West Coast for both locals and visitors during the holiday period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his keynote address the MEC for Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagan Allen, emphasised the importance of acting against those who think they are above the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBy working together we can send out a strong message to criminals and those who want to break the law. The safety of communities comes first and those who want to endanger the lives of others through criminal acts must face the full force of the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an effort to help keep the region safe the West Coast District Municipality developed a new edition of the Safety and Security Pocket Guide<\/i> for law-enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It serves as reference for Law Enforcement officials to perform their duties within their various mandates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Speaker of the district municipality, Cllr Kallie Louw, added that municipal officials will support various interventions in the region throughout the holiday period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cWe will be involved in integrated crime preventions operations, fire awareness and will assist in the coordination of community safety activities from our Disaster Management Centre in Moorreesburg.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Along with the municipal officials the South African Police Services will boost law-enforcement numbers by adding more police officers to the region\u2019s police force. \u201cWe will have more boots on the ground, which will assist us to improve our crime prevention strategies,\u201d said Major General Dyantyi, first commander of the local police district. \u201cOur plans are in place in the West Coast region and by working together we will create safer communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speeders and drunk drivers were also warned that there will be zero-tolerance for law breakers on the road. According to the Regional Director for Provincial Traffic, Des Paton, drivers who are not willing to adhere to the rules will be in for a big surprise. \u201cZero Tolerance. That is the message I have. We will not allow anybody to endanger the lives of law-abiding road users. The fatalities on our roads will only reduce if we change the behaviour of our road users and effective enforcement can assist in this regard,\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n No alcohol on beaches<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alcohol use on beaches is not allowed. This is to maintain cleanliness, safety and family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the beauty of local beaches responsibly and to not drink alcoholic beverages in public spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Fireworks regulations: permits required<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To ensure safety protocol and prevent potential hazards, it\u2019s important to note that using fireworks without a valid permit is prohibited. It is in place to ensure safety of all community members and prevent accidents or disturbances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Road safety: stay safe on the roads<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With increased travel and festivities, road safety becomes most important. All road users are encouraged to obey the traffic laws, drive responsibility, and prioritise safety. Obey speed limits, avoid drinking and driving, and ensure seat belts are always worn.
