Wat vir Mileca ook moeilik was om te verwerk, is dat haar oumagrootjie net voor haar diagnose aan lupus oorlede is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAl wat deur my gedagtes gegaan het, was hoekom ek? Ek moet bieg ek was en is soms steeds bang dat dit met my gebeur,\u201d vertel Mileca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sistemiese lupus erythematosus (SLE) is \u2019n outo-immuunsiekte wat die immuunstelsel aanval. Dit kan onder meer die vel, niere en gewrigte raak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Mileca se eerste simptome was geswelde hande en voete \u2013 iets wat baie moeilik is vir \u2019n 14-jarige om te hanteer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Haar ma, Marshia Bester, het n\u00e1 die diagnose met gemengde emosies geworstel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHoekom moet my kind di\u00e9 nare siekte kry \u2013 s\u00f3 jonk met soveel pyn en ongemak? Telkemale kon ek net bid dat sy \u2019n normale lewe moet h\u00ea,\u201d vertel Marshia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-dag-vir-dag\">Dag vir dag<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Die gesin het nie veel kennis van lupus gehad nie en het die reis as \u2019n tuimeltreinrit ervaar, met besoeke by die een dokter na die ander, elke keer met \u2019n ander diagnose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2016 het die pyn so erg geraak dat Mileca nie kon loop nie. \u201cOns het uiteindelik by \u2019n rumatoloog uitgekom, wat die lupus gediagnoseer het. My vraag was \u2013 hoe nou vorentoe? Daar was toetse op toetse en ek moes myself emosioneel voorberei op die nuus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOns het dit maar dag vir dag gevat,\u201d s\u00ea Marshia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mileca deel dieselfde sentiment en s\u00ea lupus is \u2019n baie onvoorspelbare siekte, \u201cmaar vandat ek dit aanvaar het, is dit makliker om daaroor te praat\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEk het nooit daarvan gehou as mense vra wat fout is nie, maar nou voel ek baie gemakliker om oor my siekte te praat. Sommige dae is moeiliker as ander, maar met \u2019n goeie ondersteuningstelsel is dit makliker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sy sien lupus nie as \u2019n doodsvonnis en die einde van \u2019n mens se storie nie, maar as die begin. \u201cJy kan \u2019n normale lewe leef \u2013 my normaal en \u2019n gesonde mens se normaal is dalk nie dieselfde nie, maar ek probeer so normaal as moontlik leef. Tans is ek besig met my graad in onderwys. Ek het \u2019n passie vir opvoeding en streef daarna om \u2019n goeie onderwyseres te wees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marshia is trots op haar dogter en dit wat sy op haar jong ouderdom al bereik het. \u201cOp hierdie vlak is sy sterker as wat ek is. Sy het haar afdae, maar die meeste van die tyd probeer sy so normaal as moontlik wees. Sy het \u2019n sterk veggees en laat nie toe dat lupus haar lewe oorneem nie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mei is lupus-bewusmakingsmaand en die West Coast Lupus Foundation beoog om bewusmaking reg deur die
