Today, on Mandela Day (18 July) hundreds of local individuals and businesses will reach out to the less fortunate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Mandela Day people are called to devote just 67 minutes of their time to change the world for the better in a small gesture of solidarity with humanity, in homage to the legacy of the late former President Nelson Mandela. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mandela Day each year receives much attention, and on that day do-gooders are out in full force feeding and doing their best to help those less fortunate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the past few days have been proof that acts of kindness should not take place only on one day of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The entire province suffered hardships due to stormy weather since 7 July, leaving many out in the cold and undernourished. One will hope that many do-gooders have been reaching out to individuals or organisations to assist in whichever way they can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Right through the year small gestures can be made, such as adopting a granny, feeding the hungry, passing unwanted goods on to those in need. Give a can of pet food to your local SPCA or even just smile and greet your fellow human when walking in the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
