An unexpected illness has changed the life of Vredenburg resident Johnny Reid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of today (Thursday 28 November), Reid has been hospitalised for the past 55 days battling hip prosthetic joint sepsis infection and has undergone various operations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his job as a mechanic it is essential for Reid to get back on his feet in order to provide for his family, a job that he has been doing for the past 29 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His wife Zue Mitchley says her husband loves absolutely everything about his job. \u201cBeing able to fix cars that are sick and being able to do so if a car can\u2019t speak. He describes himself as the car doctor to the mute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the satisfaction of being able to repair is his challenge. He prefers to repair before replace and loves to see all his clients happy afterwards. He loves it and just lives for his work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitchley explained that the essential medical needs include medications, physiotherapy, a wheelchair, walker, and crutches. \u201cOne crucial requirement is the need for two pairs of specially built-up shoes. Due to the length difference caused by the new prosthetic, these shoes will provide the necessary balance and support. Johnny needs to walk comfortably and confidently as he continues to heal. Moreover, relocating to a more suitable home for Johnny\u2019s recovery has become necessary. Unfortunately, without medical aid, these costs are overwhelming,\u201d said Mitchley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She explained that it all started with a urinary track infection due to an urology complication. \u201cWhen the hospital inserted an emergency catheter the body already responded to the infection and infected the blood which turned into sepsis, but it was not noticed that he has sepsis at that moment.\u201d After tests and time in hospital the diagnoses was determined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitchley reiterates that Reid has a passion for what he does and is a beloved member of the community. \u201cJohnny\u2019s passion for his mechanical workshop is not just a job, it is a dream realised. A place where he poured his heart and soul and provided for our family.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This unforeseen medical journey has made a huge impact on the family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
