History was made at Louwville High School on Tuesday 24 March as a mobile digital library was handed over to the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was made possible by Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), in partnership with Transnet Freight Rail, Kumba Iron Ore, and RuraTech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mobile digital library, which comes in the form of a laptop for the educators, 30 tablets for the learners, a printer and uninterrupted power supply (UPS), promises to expand access to digital education and bridge the gap between affluent schools and those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The mobile digital library provides tablets with an integrated Learning Management System that features CAPS-aligned content in Mathematics, Science, and Information and Communication Technology, amongst others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event also brought together community leaders, education stakeholders, and government representatives, who formed part of the guests. Nonceba Mhlauli, Deputy Minister in the Office of the Presidency, was also amongst the dignitaries in attendance and delivered a keynote address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her address Mhlauli said that the mobile digital library is a direct intervention.
“It says to every learner here that you matter, your potential matters and your access to the tools of the future matters. Because in today\u2019s world, digital access is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. It is the foundation upon which education, innovation, and economic participation are built.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mhlauli added that the mobile digital library belongs to them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is a space where curiosity must be encouraged, where questions must be asked, and where dreams must be nurtured. Explore subjects beyond your textbooks, learn new skills and discover careers you may never have imagined. Teach yourselves to code, to research, to think critically, and to innovate.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emile Petrus, principal of Louwville High School, said they are thankful and grateful for the amazing gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It means more access to information to our learners and gives them a world of opportunities. It also helps prepare teachers. We are very gratetful. With this mobile digital library it means that we have stepped into the next age, namely the digital age,” said Petrus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oscar Borchards, TPT\u2019s Western Cape Terminals Managing Executive Oscar Borchards said the initiative reflects Transnet and Kumba Iron Ore’s commitment in investing in education, strengthening communities, and creating sustainable opportunities for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
