{"id":296942,"date":"2026-02-12T13:49:26","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T11:49:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/weslander\/?p=296942"},"modified":"2026-02-12T13:49:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T11:49:28","slug":"beseerde-hondjie-ontstel-menigte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/weslander\/beseerde-hondjie-ontstel-menigte\/","title":{"rendered":"Beseerde hondjie  ontstel menige"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>&#8216;n Eensame hondjie is vroegoggend op Maandag 9 Februarie, alleen, bang en moontlik beseer in Hoofstraat in Vredenburg opgetel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sammy Springleer, &#8216;n inwoner van Oudorp en lid van die Oudorp-buurtwag, het eerste op die hondjie afgekom en dadelik &#8216;n boodskap in &#8216;n WhatsApp-groep gestuur.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris Venter, &#8216;n inwoner van Vredenburg, het gereageer en was op pad huis toe n\u00e1 sy nagskof toe hy op die hond afkom met hartseer ogies wat om hulp vra.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Venter, self &#8216;n diereliefhebber, het aan Weslander vertel hy het geweet as hy betrokke gaan raak, sal dit vir hom moeilik wees om weg te stap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Ek is nie iemand wat net kan kyk en hoop dat die volgende verbyganger gaan help nie. Sy was in &#8216;n slegte toestand, het gebewe en was selfs vol bosluise. Ek het by wetstoepassing ingestap, maar ek is meegedeel hulle kan nie die hond oplaai as sy siek is nie. Ek is terug na die hond en sy het net daar gel\u00ea en bewe. Ek het seker gemaak dat sy bewus is van my teenwoordigheid sodat sy nie hoef bang te wees nie. Mense het verbygeloop en net gekyk of hul koppe gedraai. Die naaste aan hulp wat die diertjie gekry het, was die woord &#8216;shame&#8217;. Niemand het gestop om hulp aan te bied nie. Al wat ek gehoop het, is dat iemand die hondjie dierebeskermingsvereniging (DBV) toe sal neem. My hande was afgekap omdat ek nie vervoer het nie,&#8221; vertel Venter. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Venter meen daar was &#8216;n debat tussen die DBV en wetstoepassing oor wie die verantwoordelikheid dra wanneer dit by die hond kom en n\u00e1 &#8216;n lang gewag en gesukkel tussen die twee organisasies het twee mense van die Wesland-dierehospitaal tot haar redding gekom.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volgens Dr. Marlise van der Merwe, &#8216;n veearts by die Wesland-dierehospitaal, vermoed sy die hond is deur &#8216;n motor raakgery en haar beserings so opgedoen. Van der Merwe skat die hond tussen 9-10 jaar oud en van &#8216;n kruisras. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Sy kon glad nie staan nie, was nie in &#8216;n goeie toestand nie en was oortrek van die bosluise. Ons het haar medikasie vir pyn gegee om te kyk vir verbetering en haar vir skok behandel, maar toe ons teen die middag sien dat sy nie veel beweeg nie, het ons besluit om haar uit te sit.&#8221; Sonder &#8216;n mikroskyfie of enige aanduiding aan wie die hond behoort, was dit onmoontlik vir die veearts om die eienaar te identifiseer.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Springleer meen dit is uiters wreed en hartseer dat iemand &#8216;n dier kan beseer en dan net wegry sonder om hulp te ontbied. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Wat dit nog meer ontstellend maak, is die onsekerheid oor wie verantwoordelik is om beseerde diere van ons paaie te verwyder. Ten spyte daarvan dat die voorval aangemeld is, het die hond steeds op die pad gel\u00ea en die verantwoordelikheid is basies aan die publiek oorgelaat om iets te doen. Dit is jammerlik en onaanvaarbaar,&#8221; het hy ges\u00ea.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aletta Kleynhans, wat ook &#8216;n diereliefhebber is, meen wetstoepassing moet beslag l\u00ea op honde wat in die strate rondloop.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Enige dier wat deur &#8216;n motor raakgery word maak nie saak waar nie is die aakligste ding om te aanskou. Omdat ek &#8216;n bitter groot diereliefhebber is en dit nie eens my diertjie is nie, kry ek nagmerries deur sulke gevalle te sien. Dit is hartverskeurend dat daardie arme diertjie net so gelos word om te ly.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kleynhans meen diere het ook &#8216;n lewe, bloei rooi soos mense, en hoewel hulle nie kan praat nie, maak dit nie hul lewe minder waardevol nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die eienaar van die hond is tot dusver nog nie opgespoor nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img
