Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato is hosting youth outreach programmes in 12 communities, and on Saturday 17 October took the initiative to Atlantis to involve young people in constructive mentorship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Robinvale High was the host of the event, attended by local councillors and learners from local schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mayor conducts outreach programmes to offer the youth an opportunity to join leadership camps, to be exposed to study opportunities and other life changing initiatives such as the Life Counts programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained: \u201cThis is to focus their attention on building their hopes and dreams because we want our young people, despite the challenges of their environment, to have access to opportunities and to ultimately create a better future for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plato encouraged youth to make use of every opportunity to improve their lives. The youth were also addressed by motivational speakers and religious leaders about self-confidence, how to foster a positive image, the path to success and leading by example in respect of mentoring their peers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each event, which is about three hours long, includes discussions on study opportunities and development programmes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the event, youth signed up to participate in the Life Counts programme, in which they will be mentored in leadership and personal development programmes, undergo learnerships, launch or take part in fundraising initiatives as well as leisure programmes, among other features.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
