The Western Cape Liquor Authority (WCLA) held a door-to-door community outreach campaign in Kanonkop on Friday 23 June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MEC Dan Plato joined representatives, the ward councillor and police to raise awareness of irresponsible consumption and trading of liquor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn essence, this is one part of the WCLA\u2019s \u2018Be Conscious\u2019 campaign, where officials visit households to educate community members on responsible drinking,\u201d explains Nwabisa Mpalala, Assistant Director: Communication, Education and Stakeholder Relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officials also handed out pamphlets with the WCLA\u2019s contact numbers, with the objective of raising awareness of their services and informing the public about how to get involved in the licence application process and how to lodge complaints about liquor licence holders that are trading irresponsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many of the Atlantis residents who were visited by the MEC were very pleased to be at the receiving end of the \u2018Be Conscious\u2019 campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Thursday, the WCLA also attended a meeting by the ward councillor held at the Ext.12 Hall, in one of its many efforts to eradicate the social harms of liquor abuse. During the meeting, the WCLA also handed out bags and T-shirts to a local soccer club, with a view to encouraging youngsters to steer clear of alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mpalala said the following action steps were taken following the engagements that took place: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n .<\/span>WCLA assisting the Business Chamber to be linked to the Department of Economic Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span>WCLA assisting one of the community members to be introduced to Netcare Group to study nursing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span>An opportunity for the public to raise its concerns with the Authority, which led to the Atlantis Business Chambers also being linked to Economic Development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n WCLA would value your feedback on any liquor-related matters you may have.
