{"id":50521,"date":"2017-10-17T06:00:12","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T04:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/weskusnuus\/on-your-marks-get-set-go-20171016\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T21:10:38","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T19:10:38","slug":"on-your-marks-get-set-go-20171016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/weskusnuus\/on-your-marks-get-set-go-20171016\/","title":{"rendered":"On your marks, get set, go!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Atlantis will be the last stop in the Western Province Athletic (WPA) Street Athletics series, where they will be hosted by the Velocity Athletic Club on <span>Wednesday 25 October in Arion Drive at 14:30<\/span>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs the custodians of athletics in the region, we are going to all communities, because athletics is for everyone and it is alive,\u201d said WPA Head of Development Michael Schouw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur youngsters need to realise that athletics can be a great career choice and that we as WPA are there to support them.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Manager of the Two Oceans Marathon NPC, who supports the event, Carol Vosloo commented: \u201cWe are proud to partner with Western Province Athletics and support the WPA Street Athletics series. Athletics development at grassroots level is a vital component of the long-term sustainability of the sport. While exposing these youngsters to friendly competition identifies the stars of tomorrow.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ultimate aim of the programme is that all children, from all areas, feel welcome to actively participate as the events take athletics to communities and the people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme provides the opportunity to broaden their existing prospects within sport and other non-sports related areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Events are split into four age group categories (u-17, u-15, u-13 and u-10) for boys and girls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The events will be hosted in the afternoon for two hours after school, to provide and enhance opportunities for communities to participate in athletic activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Atlantis will be the last stop
