Cape Town Metro Mayor Patricia de Lille visited the Atlantis Aquifer on Thursday 2 November to check on the progress after many of the bore holes were refurbished to increase production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The aquifer is one of several sites earmarked by the City as an alternative water source as part of their Water Resilience Plan. The water is serving homes and industry in Atlantis, Mamre and Pella. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
These boreholes form part of the City\u2019s unique Artificially Recharged Aquifer System, this system was producing around 4 million litres of water per day, which has now increased with an additional 5 million litres per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe output from the bore hole system here at Witzands and the one in Silwerstroom \u2013 not far from here, where refurbishment work has also been done \u2013 is now feeding 9 million litres per day into the Atlantis supply system.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mayor said while this increase has helped a great deal they are working on further increasing the supply from the Atlantis Aquifer over the next few months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
