A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for murder after pleading guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Sgt Noloyiso Rwexana, the incident took place in Witsand on 20 November 2016 at about 03:30 when a 15-year-old youth approached the accused, Aviwe Mgungubali, and asked for a cigarette while he was on his cellphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The youngster persisted in his request, upsetting the accused who reached into his pocket for a knife and stabbed the young man in his chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim was taken to Wesfleur Hospital and later died from his injuries. The accused entered into a plea bargain with the state and admitted to stabbing the deceased. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The detective, in partnership with the senior state prosecutor and the deceased\u2019s family, agreed to the plea and the sentence of 10 years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n During the investigation it was noted that Mgungubali was also a licenced firearm holder, but he had to be declared unfit to possess a firearm owing to the seriousness of the crime he committed.
