Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille and the executive committee of the Mamre Communal Property Association (MCPA) had a productive meeting to discuss issues relating to development for the community of Mamre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting that took place on Sunday 27 May, an in-principle agreement was reached to develop a memorandum of agreement setting out roles and responsibilities between the community and the City of Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The memorandum of agreement will set out the strategy for the development of the 5 000 hectares of the Mamre restitution land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The land is owned by the community and managed by the Mamre Communal Property Association, to which it had already been transferred in February 2013 by the national government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plan includes using the communal land for further housing opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides the ownership of the land, the community has at its disposal R8 million in trust that is managed by the City of Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposed development project for Mamre fits in with the Transport Orientated Development Plan of the City, as MyCiTi has already been implemented in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Executive Mayor agreed to implement a structure and plan between the City and the MCPA to take the developments forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
