Nora Gross, sub-council 1 (SC 1) chairperson, would like to take a moment to pay tribute to the City\u2019s front-line staff who have continued to serve the community throughout the pandemic, which efforts have exposed them to the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI also wish to extend condolences to our residents in SC 1 who have lost family members, colleagues and friends due to this pandemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCape Town remains a hot-spot area for Covid-19, and it\u2019s the responsibility of each of its residents to ensure safety regulations and protocols are adhered to. Although we have seen a decline in infection figures in the Metro we must remain cautious and maintain all safety protocols.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Upgrades to Atlantis CBD<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Almost R1,2m has been allocated to upgrading the Atlantis CBD area. According to Gross, the fencing project is nearing completion. \u201cDuring my site visit to the area on Wednesday 3 February I met with the contractor and EPWP staff to discuss the completion and remedial work to be done at this site.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said the project, initiated on 18 January 2020, is expected to be completed before the end of February. In conjunction with the ward councillor and businesses in the precinct the City has undertaken to establish a business forum to take responsibility for keeping the area clean. There are currently cleaners based at the taxi rank appointed by Transport to clean the area, Gross said. The trading area has been gazetted in the trading plan, and will accommodate 42 bays, which will be awarded to successful applicants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The question of when the traders will trade is currently being discussed. The contractor is still dealing with snags, and Transport will advise when the site will be handed over to Local Economic Development to start its process of engaging with the community. The application for traders will be loaded on the ITPS system to advertise via the e-services system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There will be a fee of R93 per month charged for trading as per the City of Cape Town tariff schedule. The older traders will have an option to transfer and the rest will be advertised for new applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am pleased to announce that the contractor employed six local residents, three appointed by the contractor and three by the EPWP office,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am intending to schedule a follow-up site meeting with several line departments: ie Roads & Transport, Electricity, Solid Waste, Parks & Recreation, to discuss service delivery matters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n City launches business expansion and retention initiative in Atlantis<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In September last year, the City launched the Business Expansion and Retention programme in Atlantis. This initiative entails surveying businesses to determine how the City can help businesses recover from the lockdown measures and to identify opportunities to build a strong more resilient future for their businesses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA local task force will be formed as well as a structure interview process to determine the needs, concerns and suggestions of the local businesses. \u201cInformation received from this initiative action plans will be done to address identified problems, as well as improvements and opportunities will be drawn up and implemented.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
