The first local health-care workers received their Covid-19 vaccinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday 19 February, Sr Janine Johannes of the Mamre Community Day Centre and Sr Marlene van den Berg-Titus of Wesfleur Hospital were the first two health-care workers from the area to be vaccinated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two, along with several other southern and western health district colleagues, were vaccinated at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, one of three central vaccination sites, said Natalie Watlington, spokesperson for the Department of Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Johannes said she chose to be vaccinated because she wanted to be protected against the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter taking this vaccine I know I will feel more comfortable on the front line, and be less at risk from severe illness and death should I contract the virus in future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis journey on the front line has been a stressful one thus far, and I want my family and friends to be as safe as possible.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Van den Berg-Titus, who is a Covid-19 survivor, is the Infection and Prevention Control Coordinator at Wesfleur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am excited to be receiving the vaccine, so that I am protected against severe Covid-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to when my family and loved ones can also get the vaccine.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
