The City of Cape Town\u2019s Mayoral Community Service Awards were adapted but still held on Wednesday 30 June at the Avondale Civic Centre, to recognise individuals\u2019 and organisations\u2019 contribution in Subcouncil 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have unfortunately had to cancel the physical event [as planned] and record the awards ceremony to protect those who would have otherwise joined us at a sit down dinner this evening,\u201d Mayor of Cape Town Dan Plato said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those locally who were honoured were at the event, where they watched the pre-recorded ceremony. The awards are intended to honour the extent of community service work of individuals, groups or organisations across the 24 Subcouncils in the City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe put out the call for nominations looking for those whose creative community service work impacts the community positively, and displays a track record of community service,\u201d Plato said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese individuals working in communities are heroes who love their neighbourhoods and are passionate about creating a positive impact in various ways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Plato, these leaders\u2019 community involvement is crucial for ensuring greater community participation and working towards unity and progress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the heroic efforts of front-line workers should not be forgotten during this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Subcouncil 1 winners, honoured at the event were: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n .<\/span> Mountview Neighbourhood Watch received the Social Support Award;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Mamre Youth Support Network received the Youth Empowerment Award;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Survivors Haven Foundation received the Women Empowerment Award;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Patrick Davids was awarded the Peace Worker Award;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Cheryl Geyer was awarded the Community Business Empowerment Award; <\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> The Children Support Award were awarded to Africa Community Movement;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> The Talent Nurturing and Development Award went to Sunday League Crime Prevention;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Jerome Evertson received the Safety Development and Awareness Award; <\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Mamre Rugby Club received the Leadership Award;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Salome Claasen was awarded for Community Bravery;<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n .<\/span> Lief en Leed Club for the Disabled were the Community Heroes of the year
