Atlantic Seafood and the Emmanuel Day Care Centre recently came together to strategise on how to help the Atlantis community overcome their needs in difficult times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The centre recently received a big donation of seafood products from the local company to be distributed through various community-based organisations to needy families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides being a centre for children with special needs, the Emmanuel Day Care Centre in Sherwood Park, Atlantis also caters for families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its 20 permanent staff members, who are from Atlantis, Mamre, Pella and Witsand, educate children through special programmes and projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides a grant from the Department of Social Development, the centre receives support from parents and from the private sector. The centre has also begun manufacturing products to sell to remain sustainable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Founder Marie Petersen has now retired, and her work at the centre has been taken over by her daughter, Joyce Anderson, a qualified social worker, along with Catholic Father Ivanhoe Allies, who took the reins from previous chairperson Josi Norfolk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The board is working to help more and more people in the community, who are getting to know the team in Sherwood Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is believed Atlantic Seafood has chosen the right time to build a relationship with the centre, which can serve as a distribution channel for Atlantis, Mamre, Pella and Witsand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
