Dr Meyer Swanepoel envisions a model of care that focuses on preventative services, including well-informed life choices and community-oriented primary care (COPC), delivered as closely as possible to where people live and work. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new Manager of Medical Services at Wesfleur Hospital said he hoped to see the standard of care continue to grow and align with the service expectations of a district-level hospital at Wesfleur hospital. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Western Cape Government Health and Wellness was pleased to announced the appointment of Swanepoel, with his a strong background in clinical care and health-care leadership. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He completed both his medical degree and postgraduate specialisation in Family Medicine at Stellenbosch University. Swanepoel’s journey in health care took him from serving as a medical officer to medical manager, giving him insight into the challenges and opportunities in the public health sector. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I enjoy public health care because I believe it’s where the greatest need exists and where the most meaningful impact can be made.” \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With this guiding principle he has set his sights on strengthening primary health-care services in the Atlantis Basin, working in close partnership with the teams at Wesfleur Hospital and surrounding primary health-care clinics (the Saxon Sea Community Day Centre, Protea Park Community Day Centre and Mamre Community Day Centre). \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My goal is to help organise the health-care service in the Atlantis Basin in a way that brings preventative and primary health-care closer to the community, without excessive waiting times and with services that the public can respect and trust. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I would like to see the level of services elevated, not only in terms of clinical care, but also through the development of staff training opportunities at the facility. Continuous learning is vital to quality health care.” \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Equally important to Swanepoel is building a positive and respectful work culture within the department. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Together with my team, I want to value each employee working in the Atlantis basin. We want to serve the community in a way where members of staff and the public feel genuinely respected.”\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Western Cape Government Health and Wellness was confident that under his leadership, Wesfleur Hospital will continue to grow as a centre of compassionate, efficient and community-driven health care.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
