The City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Directorate, in collaboration with key partners, will host a careers expo in Atlantis on Friday 30 May 2025 at the Saxonsea Community Hall from 09:00 to 15:00. This initiative is about more than career information; it’s about unlocking potential, restoring hope and connecting young people to a network of opportunities.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event aims to inspire and equip youth from Atlantis and surrounding communities with practical tools, resources and pathways to employment, training and civic involvement.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volunteerism in action\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The expo will highlight the essential role of volunteerism in building safer, stronger communities. Local neighbourhood watches and the Atlantic West Coast Fire and Rescue Services will demonstrate how volunteering creates positive change and builds local leadership. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The City’s Fire and Rescue Service will also showcase its Reservist Firefighter Programme, which provides structured training for truly committed community members who wish to serve in a volunteer capacity.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Opportunities on display\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Young people attending will have access to a wide range of exhibiters and activities, including:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
West Coast Training Academy\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chrysalis Academy\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South African Police Service and Western Cape Government departments\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
City Libraries and Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Public Participation Unit and other internal services\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those attending will receive guidance on CV writing, accessing digital resources, applying for City jobs and gaining an understanding of the City’s recruitment processes. This is a one-stop opportunity to connect with official institutions.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spotlight on the Basic Package of Support\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also featured will be the Basic Package of Support (BPS), a transformative guidance and coaching programme tailored for young people between ages 18 and 25 who are not employed or in education or training. The BPS does not place youth, but offers one-on-one coaching to help them:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Overcome personal and systemic barriers\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Improve employability\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Connect with local services\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Develop an action plan based on their goals and strengths\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Atlantis is one of the pilot sites for this initiative. Youth coaches will be present to assist with sign-ups and explain how ongoing support can help young people find their path and stay the course, even when setbacks arise.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This expo is part of the City’s broader commitment to safety, skills development and youth upliftment.
