The Atlantis Search and Rescue Missing Persons Unit’s mission is to reunite families, serve the community and protect the vulnerable.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This, according to Monthany Hendricks, founder and president of the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hendricks said with limited resources, they are based in and cover Atlantis and surrounding areas, while also having teams in Vredenburg and Saldanha, along with about 40 members volunteering in the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Established in 2022 they have a good relationship with stakeholders\/partners like the police and Social development, she added. Hendricks said all involved are volunteers and offering their personal time, but they treat each and every case with the same energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“When a missing person is found, depending on the circumstances of the case, we would take\/refer them to other stakeholders such as social development, Thuthuzela and\/or Mosaic, as they are fully trained and specialise in providing counselling to those in need at times of trauma, she added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hendricks said they try hard to make people aware and they give talks to kids about human trafficking, kidnapping, self-defence, bullying, and respect, and it proved that spreading awareness creates a sense of better understanding, which leads to them being prepared should they find themselves in a dangerous situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hendricks said that they are also taking these talks to the other areas where they are busy. “We have big plans for the near future, and from our plans is a community center for all age groups, where life skills will be taught that will grow our children mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, a place where adults can come for guidance and support with parenting skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Music classes where they will learn to play instruments or sing, a programme where discipline will be installed and be open for everyone” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said their main goal as an organisation is to be proactive and not reactive, meaning that “we aspire to change the mindset of those within our communities to prevent situations from happening and we already know what our community lacks and needs to install measures to change the current cycle,” she concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
