Atlantis police, police crime intelligence and Public Order Policing (POP) accompanied Eskom, along with Traffic Services and Law Enforcement, to Witsand to disconnect illegal connections, said Captain Lisa Munro, police spokesperson. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Four transformers and 65 poles were disconnected by members of Eskom, while police kept an eye on happenings, Munro said. Law Enforcement and Traffic Services blocked sections of the road off where Eskom was busy with disconnections. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents were not disruptive and were cooperative, Munro said. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kobus Phokiyana of Eskom explained the power utility was cutting all illegal connections, stating that the one at Witsand was affecting paying customers. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every area identified by the Customer Network Centre as being overloaded and where transformers have been erected has been visited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were no objections as the cables that were removed were connected or tapping in illegally on the Eskom infrastructure, Phokiyana stated. All those involved against the illegal connections \u2013 law-enforcement agencies, Eskom and community members \u2013 were on the scene to assist, he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
