Janine Steyn and Ina Prinsloo, two master swimmers from Bethlehem, participated in the 39th South African Masters Swimming Championship that was held at the St Stithians College Aquatics Centre in Sandton, Johannesburg, and performed very well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twenty-two clubs participated in this competition that took place from 13 to 16 March, with 18 of these clubs hailing from South Africa and the rest from Namibia and Zimbabwe. A group of foreign swimmers from other countries also participated in this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Steyn gave an exceptional performance and received a gold medal in the 200 m individual medley swim, two silver medals in the 50 m butterfly and 3 km open water swimming events, along with four bronze medals in the 200 m butterfly, 100 m butterfly, 50 m backstroke and 500 m open water relay. She also attained an overall fifth place in the 50 m freestyle swim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prinsloo had a few personal bests at the competition and received the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fourth place in the 1 km open water swim, fifth in the 100 m and 200 m freestyle swim, sixth in the 50 m backstroke, seventh place in the 50 m breaststroke and 50 m freestyle, and eighth place in the 100 m breaststroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both swimmers receive their training from coach Tina Nel, owner of the Bethseals Swimming Club in Bethlehem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
