Boere en betrokkenes in die landbousektor word gewaarsku teen moontlike dieselprys-manipulasie te midde van toenemende spanning in internasionale brandstofmarkte. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vrystaat Landbou<\/a> (VL) het die afgelope naweek daarop gewys dat die verhewigende konflik tussen Amerika en Iran reeds w\u00eareldwye onsekerheid in olie- en dieselmarkte veroorsaak het. Hierdie spanning het ook druk op belangrike skeepvaartroetes geplaas <\/strong>\u2013\u00a0soos die Straat van Hormoes,\u00a0waardeur \u2019n groot deel van die w\u00eareld se olie normaalweg beweeg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ontwrigtings op hierdie roetes het internasionale brandstofpryse laat styg en die risiko van verdere voorsieningsprobleme verhoog. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoewel die Suid-Afrikaanse regering aangedui het dat daar geen onmiddellike brandstoftekort in die land is nie, bly Suid-Afrika sterk afhanklik van ingevoerde geraffineerde brandstofprodukte, het die VL gewaarsku. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hierdie afhanklikheid stel die landbousektor en die bre\u00ebr ekonomie bloot aan moontlike prysskokke <\/strong>\u2013en selfs voorraadbeperkings, sou die konflik verder vererger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diesel bly \u2019n kritieke inset in landbouproduksie omdat dit aanplanting, oes, besproeiing en die vervoer van voedsel oor die land heen aandryf.\u00a0Enige skerp styging in dieselpryse of ontwrigting in die voorsiening daarvan sal onvermydelik bykomende druk op boere plaas en eindelik voedselpryse vir verbruikers verhoog. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die president van die VL, Francois Wilken, het ges\u00ea die organisasie moniteer die ontwikkelinge in w\u00eareldwye brandstofmarkte en die moontlike invloed daarvan op die Suid-Afrikaanse landbou deurlopend. Hy het bygevoeg dat die VL met belanghebbendes in die sektor sal saamwerk om die stabiliteit van Suid-Afrika se voedselproduksiestelsel te beskerm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Wilken is die organisasie ook bewus van gevalle waar grootmaatbrandstofverskaffers glo diesel van boere weerhou in afwagting van moontlike prysstygings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
