Graves at Utopia Cemetery in Bethlehem are reportedly overgrown with long grass and dense bushes, with some burial sites completely obscured from view. She said the condition of the cemeteries reflects a lack of respect for the deceased and adds further distress to grieving families who expect their loved ones&#8217; resting places to be treated with care and dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The issue has been raised repeatedly with the municipality, but the DA claims that no sustainable improvement has followed. During a recent Community Services meeting, municipal representatives indicated that weeds would be treated using drone technology. However, Senekal said only selected sections of the cemeteries appear to have received attention, leaving many graves unattended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She argued that partial interventions fail to address the broader problem and instead reinforce perceptions of inconsistent and ineffective service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community members have echoed concerns that the neglect of burial grounds undermines public trust and erodes confidence in the municipality&#8217;s ability to carry out its basic responsibilities.
