At just 16 years old, Jevanho Motaung is making a name for himself as one of South Africa’s most promising high jumpers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is a Gr. 11 learner of Goudveld-Ho\u00ebrskool in Welkom and is currently ranked and tenth nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His journey began with a leap of faith \u2212 not just his own, but that of a teacher who saw his potential early on.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I was still a learner at Riebeeckstad Primary School when one of the teachers introduced me to high jump. She is the reason, and she still plays a big role in my life and development as an athlete,” says Jevanho. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before joining Goudveld, he attended Welkom-Gimnasium. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jevanho has represented the Free State six times. His personal best as a national high jumper is 1,95m. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His talent also earned him a spot at the European Youth Athletics Tour in Sweden, but due to financial restraints he could not go.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jevanho’s dream is to one day compete internationally. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, he is keeping his faith strong, and working to \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

inspire others in his community.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It doesn’t matter where you come from \u2212 Bronville, a small school, or a tight budget. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you have the passion, you will go far,” he believes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
