An extensive Cancer Awareness Day was held in the Phomolong Village at Rheederpark, in Welkom, on 2 May. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gustav Mokgothu, a respected community worker in Lejweleputswa and one of the organisers of the event, says it was a major success and well attended. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Co-operating organisations that were represented included the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), SAPS and Department of Social Development. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sr Masebatsa Molele, a well-known and beloved figure in the community, taught cancer awareness, focusing on increasing knowledge and understanding of cancer, its prevention, early detection, and treatment options. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instrumental in making the day a success was Setshego Abrams, director of Corporate Servics at the Lejweleputswa District Municipality. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cllr Estelle Dansey, ward 35 councillor, also supported the event. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The day was funded solely by the organisers. Our event was blessed and there was ample food for everyone, so much so that we were able to also give to the unemployed that sit on Welkom’s streets waiting to be hired,” says Mokgothu. \r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
