In a bid for a greener Welkom, a multinational technology company has sponsored the planting of six trees at the Riebeeckstad High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This company, in partnership with Food & Trees for Africa, spearheaded a campaign to plant 1 020 trees at schools and community centres across Welkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event at the Riebeeckstad High School was hosted by Frans Wessels, director of the local dealership in Welkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is a true honour to be able to make a gift of this nature to the school and, indeed, to Welkom,\u201d said Wessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mookho Letshokgohla, Food & Trees for Africa facilitator, planted the trees with the assistance of learners and teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Betsi Schoeman, principal, it is a privilege for the school to take part in this greening project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know that the conducive environment created by planting trees will have a positive effect on our children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many more children and community members are set to benefit from the plantings, which will take place at 19 more schools and four community organisations in and around Welkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe all know that greening the environment helps to reduce pollutants in the air and soil, which is naturally important for our long-term well-being,\u201d Wessels said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, studies have shown that green surroundings have a positive effect on your mood and help to relieve stress and anxiety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
