In reaction to Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa\u2019s complaint regarding the squalor of towns, the executive mayor of the Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Veronica Ntakumbana, visited three municipalities to hand over dustbins and plant trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is in pursuit of promoting a clean district,\u201d said Khaya Mqeke, municipal spokesperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ntakumbana emphasised that if waste is not managed well, people become demoralised and frustrated and lose their sense of pride in their town or city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA clean city with residents that treat rubbish responsibly is a proud city, a safe city and a city where people want to live and invest. When rubbish piles up and collects in the street, it creates a pervasive sense of disorder and chaos, leading to decline.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Ntakumbana, the solid waste problem in Lejweleputswa is not much different to what other districts experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe district\u2019s commitment to a safer and cleaner environment is part of our clean area competition, which will be implemented across Lejweleputswa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople need ways to manage waste responsibly, and we must provide them with this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ntakumbana emphasised that rubbish left on the street or thrown in the water never really goes away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It simply keeps piling up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet us all do our part to keep Lejweleputswa clean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
