The Welkom SAPS members participated in improving the lives of the community during the 67 minutes for Mandela Day around Welkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Monday (18\/07) started with members of Welkom Partnership Policing unit visiting street children behind the taxi rank near Marios and also near Welkom Clinic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The children were addressed by Col. Beulah Siyaya. She spoke to them about crime related matters such as rape, business burglaries, housebreakings, substance abuse and also about their own safety living on the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The members then proceeded to the Sassa offices where they rendered services to the community by certifying documents, affidavits and dealt with other police related matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the Women\u2019s Network visited a house in Riebeeckstad where Esther Matshangaze is taking care of 14 abandoned children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSeven of these children are living with disabilities and only survive with social grants,\u201d says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, SAPS media liaison officer in Lejweleputswa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Women\u2019s Network deputy chairperson, Dinono Khotle, and Welkom police donated food parcels, fruit, children\u2019s clothes, vegetable seeds and manure for a vegetable garden that was started at the shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WO Cethekile Kunene said this is just the beginning of more things to come as they aim to continue doing good to the less fortunate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police officers ended the day by planting seeds and cleaning the vegetable garden to ensure that the children do not go to bed on an empty stomach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
