A 26-year-old man who boarded what he thought to be a bona fide taxi in Naudeville, Welkom, was accosted and robbed of R800 by armed assailants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On 23 October, the man got into a white Toyota Conquest, registration number HCL 208 FS, that posed as a taxi. He asked to be taken to the Welkom CBD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere was a driver and two other passengers in the vehicle. The vehicle drove to the outskirts of Welkom towards the Bultfontein road. The two passengers drew knives and the driver drew a handgun,\u201d says Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thakeng says they searched the victim and took his money. They then pulled him out of the vehicle, and left him there. The victim was not injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A case of Armed Robbery is being investigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cResidents of Naudeville and other suburbs are sternly warned to ensure that they use a vehicle with a taxi cab sign\/light on it. This will indicate that it is a real taxi,\u201d says Thakeng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
