The Lejweleputswa police are concerned about dangerous weapons, toy guns, liquor and drugs found in local schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maj. Gen. Lerato Molale, district commissioner of Lejweleputswa, has requested the intervention of parents to regularly search their children\u2019s school bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday (04\/11) a joint operation comprising Bultfontein police members, the Department of Correctional Services, Home Affairs, community patrollers, the community policing forum and the Tswelopele Traffic Department was held, and a school was visited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The learners were searched and Okapi knives, a self-made knife, scissors, drugs and dagga were found. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
These items are not allowed at school, yet learners are found in possession of them, says Molale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Thabong, Partnership Policing members visited schools where weapons, and drugs like nyaope and dagga, were found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Welkom, Social Crime Prevention members also visited schools and various drugs, weapons and liquor were found in the learners\u2019 possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Kgotsong, Bothaville, a learner threatened an educator with a gun. When the learner was arrested, it was found to be a toy gun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis female educator was afraid to attend school due to threats from the learner,\u201d says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are appealing to parents to make sure that school bags are regularly searched to ensure that their children are not taking unlawful items into the school environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thakeng says learners disrupt learning when they are under the influence of drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
