{"id":54426,"date":"2023-03-03T12:02:30","date_gmt":"2023-03-03T10:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/vistanews\/drugs-found-on-bus-20230303\/"},"modified":"2025-03-21T00:28:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T22:28:32","slug":"drugs-found-on-bus-20230303","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/vistanews\/drugs-found-on-bus-20230303\/","title":{"rendered":"Drugs found on bus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Acting on a tip-off from the provincial counter narcotics unit, members of the Welkom K9 Unit arrested three suspects for possession of drugs, illegal immigration and suspected counterfeit goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The drugs were found on a passenger bus travelling through Welkom from Gauteng to the Western Cape on 1 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SAPS found 25 boxes containing a total of 4 925 bundles of the khat drug plant in various places inside the bus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey also found 13 cellphones, suspected to be counterfeit, behind the driver\u2019s seat,\u201d says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa SAPS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cActing on information from the other passengers, the police arrested a 54-year-old man for illegal immigration. The third suspect was travelling to Bellville in the Western Cape.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The acting district commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brig.
