Drug abuse, bullying and fighting have been identified as serious concerns at the Seqhobong Secondary School in Odendaalsrus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school\u2019s Adopt-A-Cop nominee, Const. Mxoli Makoti, then launched an awareness campaign at the school, in conjunction with the District Corporate Communication Commander, Capt. Stephen Thakeng, the Welkom K9 unit led by Capt. Wassie Wasmuth, Sgt. Sesing Rakoata, and Const. Gordon Kamfer. The Social Crime Prevention team, represented by Sgts Nomathemba Khoza and Lerato Mofokeng, was also part of this successful event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The female students were addressed about their safety, and advised to stay away from drugs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey were told to give information about drug dealers so that the police can deal with them swiftly. They were encouraged to respect their educators and make the learning environment conducive,\u201d says Thakeng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The boys were shown different kinds of drugs by Capt. Wassie Wasmuth, and they were told how these drugs affect people and their bodies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey were told that bullying, fighting, and drug dealing must stop with immediate effect. If they are caught committing these crimes, the police will ensure that suspects are brought to book to face the might of the law. The Welkom K9 unit was also present with their police dogs.
