The Class of \u201995 of the Welkom Secondary School is challenging all alumni to join them in their project to renovate, renew, restore and upgrade the school, one classroom at a time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This challenge was made after the group of former classmates met after more than 20 years for their first annual class reunion, and to celebrate 36 years in education of the Welkom Secondary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reunion took place on 29 April at the school in Bronville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school first opened its doors in 1987 as the first, and still the only secondary school serving the community of Bronville and its surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Jannie Swartz, chairperson of the Class of \u201995 group and his working committee members, the aim of the event was not only to bring old school friends together, but also to celebrate life and the success of the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Welkom Secondary School, against all odds, keeps showing exceptional results achieving 93,2% to a 100% pass rate over the past few years, competing with the best schools in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was a nostalgic weekend for everyone because this was the first reunion where present and former teachers and principals of the school were invited to the celebrations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe also invited family members of students and teachers we have lost along the way,\u201d Swartz explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the night of the reunion, pledges were already made towards upgrading one of the classrooms which will be named \u201cClass of \u201995\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is great excitement around the project\u2019s proceedings, which is leading to renewed interest in the community by alumni from all over South Africa,\u201d added Swartz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
