{"id":51701,"date":"2023-10-05T11:18:43","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T09:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/vistanews\/illegal-cigarettes-found-20231004\/"},"modified":"2025-03-21T08:15:20","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T06:15:20","slug":"illegal-cigarettes-found-20231004","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/vistanews\/illegal-cigarettes-found-20231004\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal cigarettes found"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The police in Welkom seized illegal cigarettes with an estimated value of R900 000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 27 September members of the anti-narcotics unit, in collaboration with the Welkom K9 unit and private security, followed up on information about a load of illegal cigarettes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The truck was identified and police stopped it on Stateway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they opened the door of the truck, the cargo hold appeared to be empty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, upon further inspection, a hidden compartment was discovered in the back of the truck. Inside, the police found boxes of cardboard containers with illegal cigarettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 21-year-old suspect was arrested in terms of the Forgery and Possession of Illegal Goods Act.
