As part of the Rotary Club in Welkom\u2019s annual polio drive, all polio survivors in Welkom and surrounds are invited to take part this year. Rotarian Jill Lombard asks all survivors to contact her to be part of the activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The drive will be held in the Goldfields Mall on Saturday, 21 October, from 09:00 to 11:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Various awareness activities are planned, including Welkomites raising much-needed funds while lying in a mock iron lung. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There will be nine \u201cpatients\u201d asking for pledges to be discharged from their half-an-hour long stint in the lung. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The nine patients are Gerry Cloete (Dunamis Christian School), Francois Malan (Podbielski Attorneys), Suzette Jooste (Suzette Jooste Attorneys), Marti Will (Editor of Vista<\/span>), Jeanette Wessels (ex-Rotarian), Jan Jacobs (Move 1Million), Ian Buchanan (Flamingo Rotary president), That Moloi (Goldfields Sunset Rotary), and Eddie Nakeli (Community Peace Corps worker).<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe will take the pledges at the mall on Saturday, and here will be a card machine if needed,\u201d says Lombard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat we will be having at the mall is a replica \u2018iron lung\u2019 and prominent Goldfielders have been invited to lie in the lung for half an hour each to raise funds for the eradication of polio,\u201d says Lombard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Along with their partners, Rotary International has helped immunise more than 2,5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Rotary has reduced polio cases by 99,9% worldwide and say they will not stop until they eradicate the disease for good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Polio survivors who want to be part of the local campaign, can call Lombard on 082-925-4977.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Goldfielders are requested to attend and support this initiative so that the Rotary can help rid the world of this deadly disease. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" As part of the Rotary Club in Welkom\u2019s annual polio drive, all polio survivors in Welkom and surrounds are invited to take part this year.
