The Samwu strike in Welkom is so far peaceful and slow as the mass of workers worked their way down Koppie Alleen Road, and then down Stateway, eventually turning into Bok Street, with the municipal complex as their eventual destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matjhabeng employees are unhappy with working conditions (which includes a lack of PPI\u2019s), and the continual interference of the executive Mayor of Matjhabeng, Thanduxolo Khalipha. They are demanding his immediate dismissal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vista<\/span> understands that Khalipha sent the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) a memorandum in which he states that he (the municipality) has decided to lock-out the Samwu members from municipal premises in Matjhabeng, effective from today, 29 January, for the duration of the strike action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
