With over 90 stall holders and the number steadily growing, the Our People\u2019s Market has become firmly established on its new premises at the Welkom Technical High School (THS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Held on the second Saturday of every month, the Welkom Publicity Association (WPA) has implemented major changes to their monthly market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDue to the ongoing strike action by municipal workers and the state of the inner city as a result of the non-collection of refuse, the monthly market had to make a move. The headmaster of THS has made his grounds available and is prepared to go the extra mile to ensure that the market has first-class facilities,\u201d says Dulcie Harris of the WPA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
These changes include a brand new security fence around the sports terrain where the market will be held, the introduction of three-phase power, and the adjoining hostel complex made available for exhibitors from afar to stop-over for the night, and still be close to the terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a huge bonus. The whole terrain is being marked with lines and numbers. The toilets are well maintained and staffed by cleaners,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Brian Emmenis, WPA chairman, his team is working round the clock to get the market back on track. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am pleased to welcome four new members to my team. They are all exhibitors and are able to guide us as we move forward,\u201d says Emmenis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new-look market has something for everybody. There is a dedicated and secure kiddies play area, a major Car Boot Sale, and numerous stalls with a large variety of products. A major plus point is that exhibitors and flea market patrons alike can park in the large secure car park right next to the market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The market will open Saturday, 9 March, at 08:00 and closes at 14:00. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
