\n The plight of businesses and residents in St Helena, Welkom, have become untenable as raw sewage now flows like a river behind the shopping complexes bordering on Tugela Circle.<\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n In a letter to Adv. Lonwabo Ngoqo, municipal manager of Matjhabeng, Dr Igor Sceheurkogel, Matjhabeng councillor, bemoans their fate.<\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Scheurkogel says the raw sewage flowing there has been reported over and over, yet nothing is being done. <\/s1>\n<\/s1><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Residents can no longer live with the stench and the filth surrounding their homes and properties.<\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n The conditions behind and around a national retailer doing business there is beyond unbearable, and access to the huge business is hampered by roads riddled with potholes and strongly flowing sewage.<\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Scheurkogel says the mess has been reported week in and week out, but to no avail.<\/s1>\n<\/s1><\/s1><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \u201cThis is the standard that the residents must just accept from Matjhabeng because there are not enough teams, trucks, equipment, and resources \u2013 as there are not enough funds.<\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \u201cThere is no use to host investment summits when we do not take care of our current businesses. <\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \u201cSome of these businesses have been in Welkom for decades, and if we continue like this, Welkom will become a ghost town.<\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \u201cUrgent actions need to be taken here. <\/s1>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n \u201cThe roads around this shopping complex are undrivable and you need a 4 x 4 to cross certain intersections because the flowing water and sewage have destroyed the road due to slow action by officials.\u201d<\/s1><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
